12:30pm Met Si xun, Jinzhong and Youzhi at the loading bay. Sixun and I proceeded to put up the labels on all the dressing rooms....one of the doors doesn't open, had to go to security to draw another key for that dressing room...
1:15pm Moh Li gave briefing on what is happening later. Have to bring those bands who are suppose to report later to come in earlier so that they can listen to other bands' soundcheck. Tour around the backstage. I went off halfway to meet my sparkies
1:35pm I ran to the concourse to find my band. Gave the pass to them, luckily lin, maria, sam and jinzhong came to help. Have to shout at them to get their attention and lead them to their dressing room. Jinzhong lead them to the wrong direction and everyone was confused on where they are supposed to go. I lead them to the big lift and the students were amazed on how big the lift is. They were allowed to warm up in their rooms, but later the production guy told me to keep the band quiet because sso was doing some recording in the recital studio. sigh...it was difficult to keep them quiet cos they need to tune after all, so we told them to tune softly....
2:20pm Assembled the whole band outside the dressing room and took them to concert hall backstage for their soundcheck. I was confused over the order of lining up the brass section, and also mixed up their assemble place. I thought brass is in the dark corridor behind the stage, but they are supposed to be in the main corridor. The players know their positions better than me...I got confused...the production guy kept reminding me to keep the bands quiet whenever they assemble at the corridor.
2:30pm Soundcheck starts.....sounds ok.....well, my sparkies could have been better if they put in more effort..but then, only so much can be done in 3 days of rehearsals..but xin yuan (1st trombone) is good in his noah's ark solo. So is our tuba section...
3:10pm Mr Oura finished conducting. Mr Lee's turn. Had to remind the girls in the front row to seat properly....alvin and the other conductors were commenting.....
3:30pm - 5pm I let the band off after the soundcheck and they were free to listen to other bands. Told them that dinner will be 5 pm and moh li told me later it was 5:30pm. I went about to collect tickets from those who wants to leave it at the ticket booth.
5:45pm Dinner finally arrived. The oriental staff in green room actually told me that we are not allowed to eat inside there unless we have esplanade approval, but since we were already there, he kindly let us eat our food inside the green room. Some bands seemed to got confused over where they are supposed to have dinner (green room or artists' lounge). When I asked a student whether he knows where the artists' lounge is, he just gave a confused look.....me and sam finally could eat dinner and rest for a little while....
6:30pm Back at dressing rooms to ensure that the band is getting ready...very noisy...
7:05pm Lead the band to concert hall backstage and we lined them up according to seating arrangement. Brass in the corridor, woodwinds in dark corridor behind stage, perc inside the area outside dark corridor. I wished the brass soloists for noah's ark and sea song good luck while we were waiting for them to go in.
7:30pm...GOH was late!!! So quiet in the audience seats....One of the conductors suggested playing a warm up but the production guy said no, cos they won't know how to cue the band to stop when GOH arrives...so we let the silence continue
7:45pm GOH finally arrived....and we proceeded with the plaque presentation....
7:55pm Mr Oura conducts.....then it was Mr Lee's turn. He was in the audience seats but did not go onstage until the emcee had to go out and announce his name....
8:15pm End of Sparkies' performance...back to dressing room...more noise as barnes band were in the dressing room too...chaotic....some roamed to concert hall backstage to see the concert. Moh Li did not allow them to be at concert hall backstage cos too noisy, and they were also not allowed to go outside during interval...So I stayed at dressing room to watch over them and went to backstage a few times....when second half started, a french horn girl gathered some of the sparkies to play game (mafia) and I joined in. She is so cute!! But sadly, the production guy came to stop us, telling me that the recording is not over yet, and he pulled jingzhong to one corner to tell him the situation, when he could have actually explained it to me personally?? sigh...was just starting to have fun with these students...haha
10 plus pm Concert finally ends....before the that, we moved sparkies to artists' lounge to reduce the noise level outside recital studio and soon the artists' lounge were filled with spakies and also barnies...one of the acjc player left first. Gave Mr Lee the card at artists' lounge which the sparkies signed....as everyone starts to leave, the acjc alto sax player came up to me to shake my hand and thanked me.....felt appreciated for my efforts for the past four days...also received thanks from the other players in sparke band too...: )I helped to bring srjc band to their bus at the taxi stand, and as i made my way back to the backstage thru the car park/loading bay, i saw the production guy again, and he told me to gather whatever remaining bands still waiting to receive their bus at the loading /car park area instead...he looked so serious the whole day....
11 plus pm...cleared everything in backstage, locked all the rooms and all the chaperons and logs took pictures in the chaperons room...at first without moh li...haha..until she came in later....then me, chen ying and youzhi helped carry her stuff and waited for a cab with her. The the three of us went to wait the nearby coffee shop to wait for youzhi's bro to pick us up. While waiting, we chatted about things that happened during the band fest....which was kind of fun, but tiring..: )
